Origin
Simon Savage was an American whom had become a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Because of this, he came into close contact with other famous war heroes such as Sergeant Fury and his Howling Commandos.
Creation
Captain Savage was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Sgt. Fury #10 (1964).

Simon Savage was a United States Marine Corps Captain who is best remembered for having commanded the Leatherneck Raiders during World War II. He was known for his long beard and mustache, but shaved it off during the war. He fought during many missions with his team, until the end of the war. After the war, Captain Savage retired and was not seen for a very long time.
Fall of the Hulks
A greatly aged Captain Savage re-entered the superhero community when he spoke during the funeral of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross when it was falsely believed that Ross had died.
