Cat’s Paw

History

Much of the origin of the costumed criminal known as the Cat’s Paw remains a mystery. In the 1940s, her and her gang were contracted by the Nazis to eliminate prominent American businessmen and captains of industry in order to undermine the American and British war effort. Their plot was uncovered by a colleague of the Golden Age Angel, one Dr. Lin. Before Lin could expose Cat’s Paw’s plot, he was murdered.

The Angel would pursue Cat’s Paw and her men to her hideout but the battle ended in a stalemate, with both the hero and villain fleeing. Cat’s Paw then sought to resume her assassination plot with the murder of industrialist J.P. Thomas, which brought her to a masquerade party. The Angel would arrive there as well, and once again interfere, which caused Cat’s Paw to make another retreat. The Angel followed her back to her hideout where he discovered the full scope of the murderess’ plot. Unfortunately for her, Cat’s Paw’s Nazi overlord then felt she had outlived her usefulness and the Nazi decided to eliminate both the Angel and her. Cat’s Paw ends up having a change of heart and her and the Angel end up joining forces to defeat the Nazi.

Since Cat’s Paw was still a murderer, Angel was forced to bring her to the attention of the authorities. Before being brought into custody, Cat’s Paw made a final request to be allowed to change out of her costume alone and the Angel agreed. When the Angel went to check on her however, he discovered nothing but her costume a blaze. The only way out of the room seemed to be a 500 foot drop, so Angel assumed she perished.
