She especially hates that her mother has re-entered a relationship with another man (whom she hates) and that she now cares infinitely more for him than for her. She feels excluded, useless, unloved, and therefore does everything to be noticed. In college, Charlie hangs out with a bunch of bad boys, who spend their time nagging and harassing the weaker ones, including Astrid. In front of the others, Charlie shamelessly participates in this constant harassment.
