Check Hardwing

On Puckworld:

Grin meets Tae Quack Do.
Grin meets Tae Quack Do.

Grin described himself as “an angry young duck from a hard-boiled egg.” He was a violent hockey player who committed many penalties, until he met Tae Quack Do, the great hockey master (a sort of Mr. Miyagi type duck). Tae Quack Do taught him the true way of hockey, and impressed upon him to teach others by example.

Grin was recruited for Canard’s strike force for his incredible strength.

On Earth:

One of the most powerful players in the league, Grin can check two players at once and not have a scratch on him. He is the main muscle of the team, but he is not the typical brain-dead dope that the “strong guy” characters in cartoons usually are. He is zen and practices meditation and inner-peace. He often speaks in phrases that the other ducks don’t understand, but that represent his lifestyle.

Quotes:

“Pain is an illusion. …an illusion that really REALLY hurts.”

Tanya: “We’ve got to shut down the engines now!”
Grin: “The smallest pebble may divert the mightiest river.”
Tanya: “GRIN– NO!”
Grin: *punches the power crystals and blows up the engine*

“It is time to raise your consciousness. If you do not find enlightenment and help your fellow man, I’m going to rearrange your face.”

Grin: “We gain by what we leave behind.”
Mallory: “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Grin: “Duke’s outlaw days are over. Right?”

“No. For you see, I was once like him. I was an angry young duck from a hard-boiled egg.”

Stanley: “Hockey players are supposed to clobber each other!”
Grin: “No. You have forgotten that hockey is about skill and honor. See what it’s done to you?”
Stanley: *sees his reflection* “I’M A MONSTER!”
Grin: “It’s a reflection of what’s inside you. You must return to the true way of hockey.”

Nosedive: “You think that thing has inner-good, Grinster?”
Grin: “No.”
Nosedive: “How can you be sure?”
Grin: “It doesn’t play hockey.”

“Hockey works in mysterious ways.”

Duke: “The only reason we missed that game is because we happened to be saving the world!”
Grin: “No. In the words of hockey master Tae Quack Do, we blew it.”

Grin: “‘Go quietly amid the noise and haste, and know what comfort there may be in silence.'”
Bad guy: “NOT DESIDERATA! I HATE THAT STUPID POEM!!!” *runs from room*
Grin: “Works every time.”
