Origin
Described as a two-fisted hard hitting police reporter who would rather fight thugs than eat, Chic Carter was a plain clothes adventurer until on being put under surveillance by the police got around it by grabbing his old sword, donning a domino mask and fencing outfit he had not worn since winning two gold medals in the Olympic when a youth, then taking out after the crooks that had gotten him in trouble, while calling himself The Sword. Â

Written and drawn by  Vernon Henkel, Chic Carter was a long running short backup feature in the back of Smash and Police Comics, the Sword identity did not show up until his 24th story, and was only used every now and then.
