Chip Gardner

Origin

Chip Gardner was a tough but smart private eye who dealt with a long line of mobsters, blackmailers, murderers and other low lifers; he was often aided during his cases by his secretary Wendy.

Creators

Chip Gardner was a semi-regular feature in Crime Does Not Pay, and one of the longest running private eye features in comics. While it is not known who did all the scripts there is a possibility that many or most of them may have been written by Walter Gibson, the creator and writer of the pulp Shadow and Golden-Age Shadow comic stories.

Whatever the case, the fact remains that while Chip Gardner is pretty much forgotten today at the time he was the lead continuing character in what was for many years the best selling comic in America.
