Colonel Hawkins

Origin

Colonel Hawkins purchases Rod McCloud due to the boy’s supposed abilities to locate water, even in the desert. He brands the boy with the symbol of a hawk and fish. When Rod escapes, the Colonel rounds up his men and chases after him.

Major Story Arcs

The Colonel and his posse catch up to Rod in the town of Deliverance. The boy is with a girl clad in only a bikini. The Colonel demand the boy and the girl – Whisky Jill – pulls out her whip. The Colonel grabs for his gun but is too late. The whip knocks his gun from his hand and then startles the horses. The Colonel is bucked from his horse when the gun lands on the ground and fires. As his posse rides away on the scared horses, the Colonel tries to reach his gun. Whisky Jill merely walks up to him and knocks him unconscious with her whip.

Upon waking up, the Colonel finds Jill’s trail. He begins to follow it in hopes that the rest of his gang will catch up. They do and the trail leads to a solitary house. The Colonel directs his men to storm the house while he waits outside. He watches as the men burst in, but then witnesses the house blow up while Whisky Jill and Rod ride away.

The Colonel tries to walk through the desert but succumbs to his weariness and passes out in the dirt. He later wakes up and finds the Marshall standing over him. The two travel together and find a camp with three dead men. The Colonel is shocked at the dead bodies and the two men move on to Saltwater, Jill’s hometown. Once they arrive, the Colonel is asked to stay outside the town. He reluctantly agrees, but only on the condition that the Marshall bring Rod back out alive and well.

Somehow the Colonel ends up with the Marshall again (the Marshall had supposedly died due to his encounter with Jill) and the two track Jill and Rod to a campsite outside of Saltwater. The Marshall catches Rod and uses him as bait to draw out Jill. Once the ploy is over, the Colonel confronts Rod and pulls off his belt to start beating the boy. Just then, a lightning strike surprises a hawk carrying a swordfish. The swordfish is dropped and it impales the Colonel, killing him instantly.
