Origin
Cordelia was originally created as a character in the Dark Tower novels, by Stephen King. She also appears in the Marvel series Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born.
Character Development
When her brother Pat dies under mysterious circumstances – initially believed to be nothing more than an unfortunate accident – Cordelia is given custody of Pat’s only daughter, Susan. Wanting to make money for the family in Pat’s absence, Cordelia enters an agreement with the Mayor of Hambry. She promises Mayor Thorin the virginity of her young niece, in exchange for financial security for the family.
Cordelia uses Susan’s grief over her father, as well as the girl’s misplaced sense of duty, to convince Susan to go along with Thorin’s agreement, although the girl is still too young to fully understand what being the Mayor’s “side-wife” will entail.
Major Story Arcs
The Gunslinger Born
When Roland Deschain and his friends arrive in town, Cordelia is instantly suspicious of his intentions – and while he and Susan try to keep their love a secret, she is convinced that they are sleeping together, and will ruin the whole deal. Becoming increasingly short tempered and controlling, Cordelia eventually joins forces with Rhea, a local witch, to find out the truth and punish those involved. The plan culminates in the death of young Susan and her unborn child, burned alive by the villagers as a sacrifice on Reaping Night.
