Character Evolution
The Count is the protagonist of the self-titled Poot story, “Count Stinkenpuss”. He has a cat named Mr Lovely, which he dresses up as a pirate – complete with eye patch and prosthetic wooden legs – and enters into a local cat contest, in order to cause a stir in the society pages of his local newspaper. He also wants to defeat his arch nemesis, Count Flatyuloff, who is also entering the contest with his cat, Puddin-Pie. Stinkenpuss is a cross dresser, and wears a wig and dress to disguise himself at the contest. Mr Lovely is kidnapped by Flatyuloff – who is jealous and accuses them of making a mockery of the contest. Flatyuloff recognizes Stinkenpuss straight away. The Counts have a history as lovers, but it is revealed that Flatyuloff left Stinkenpuss for somebody else after a disagreement.
When Flatyuloff steals away in a plane to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania , Count Stinkenpuss chases after them, and manages to rescue Mr Lucky, before shooting down the enemy plane. As the plane crashes into the volcano, Count Stinkenpuss declares “I loved you once”.
