Applejack’s childhood friend from Camp Friendship, Coloratura, or “Rara” is a pony pop-star obviously based on Lady Gaga (note arriving in a giant prism, her lavish costumes and make-up, spectacle performance, nickname “Rara” sounding a lot like the song “Bad Romance,” and the fact that the name “Countess” was Lady Gaga’s character in season 5 of American Horror Story).
When she arrived in Ponyville for the Helping Hooves Music Festival, she appeared to have forgotten the true meaning of friendship, and just maintained an above-it-all image cultivated by her manager, Svengallop. But Applejack helped her see that Svengallop was abusing his association with her to make outrageous demands of other ponies, and was just straight-up taking advantage of her fame. At the end of the episode, she took off her costume and make-up, and simply played the piano and sang a beautiful song, demonstrating that true friendship and glamour comes from within.
