Dan Turner

History

Dan Turner is one of the original tough guy private eyes operating out of Hollywood California mainly for the movie industry.

He is noted for having a style of speaking that is only recognizable as English because it doesn’t fit into any other language group. For instance he did not shoot a gun, with him his “roscoe vomited hot death.”

Dan Turner is one of the most written about characters in fiction with over 300 stories featuring him he was also one of the first comic characters not to appear in a newspaper comic strip, however he did not first appear in a comic either.

Starting in 1934, in the pulp magazine Spicy Detective Stories, Dan Turner was featured in 4 page black and white stories in the back of the magazine, these were later colleted and colored and appeared in the pages of Crime Smashers Comics in the 50’s.

Eternity Comics brought him back for 6 issues in the 1980’s.

Dan Turner appeared in two movies: Blackmail (1947) and The Raven Red Kiss-Off (1990).
