History

Going to College

Daphne, with the help from her best friend, Kristi, prepared to go to college and was selecting a dorm roommate. During the selection, Kristie gifted Daphne with a poster of her favorite pop-star, Zola Telsa. As they discussed the trip, Daphne brought up her boyfriend, Ronnie. In response, Kristie told Daphne that in her opinion, Daphne shouldn’t be following Ronnie to L.A. and that she takes on the identity of her boyfriends. Daphne retaliated, claiming that Kristi is jealous of the school she got into and her love life. Daphne then left, neither attempting to resolve the fight.

Daphne then was finishing her packing when she called Ronnie, but he didn’t answer. As she finished, she found an old animation project that she had planned and never completed. Instead of packing it, Daphne left it behind, telling herself that it was children stuff.

Discovering Rycroft Manor

When Daphne arrived at college, she met her roommate, Michelle. Daphne attempted to strike up a conversation and make friends with her, but it is clear that Michelle wasn’t interested. So, Daphne went to meet up with some new girls she met but, when they never showed up, she returned to her dorm only to find that Michelle was hosting a Bible study group. She got her bike and left to go to Ronnie’s place, only to have Ronnie break up with her because he didn’t think they would work out. Daphne stormed off and left her bike behind and, on the way back to her dorm, stumbled upon Rycroft Manor.

She went inside, found a pool, and jumped in. While she is swimming, a ghost approached her, which freaked her out. Daphne then stumbled into another ghost, causing her to run, until she saw more of them and passed out. When she awakened, all the ghosts are there, and Daphne began to panic, thinking that would hurt her. The leader of the ghosts, Agi, told Daphne to go home but, since she found Rycroft Manor comforting, she convinced them to let her stay. Agi agreed but says that at first it’s a trial and that Daphne will prove herself by doing errands for them.

New Beginnings

The next day, Daphne attended her classes. At lunch, she saw Ronnie with a new friend and Daphne got jealous of her. She ended up meeting a classmate named Brent and then went back to her dorm. She talked to Michelle, packed her bag, and left.

Arriving at Rycoft Manor, she interacted with one of the ghosts, Ricky, and taught him about modern day technology. Then, she went out to a club, on a date with Brent. It’s not long before Brent showed his true colors, insulting her and almost starting a fight with someone else at the club. Daphne left and Brent followed her. Unable to make him go away, Daphne texted Ronnie, needing help. When Ronnie doesn’t answer, she led Brent to Rycroft Manor and attracted the attention of the ghosts, who scared Brent off.

Agi and Daphne then discuss what happened before Daphne headed to bed, but is briefly confronted by Maurice, who doesn’t really like her, for making noise. Daphne apologized.

Ronnie’s Arrival

Worried after getting no answer after Daphne texts, Ronnie used her “Find My Friends” location to locate her and went to Rycroft Manor. Daphne immediately ushered him out of the place and they got into a brief argument, debating over whether Daphne owed him answers about his texts.

Ronnie left and Daphne is confronted by Maurice again.

The next day, Daphne is at a museum, when she’s approached by the ghost Bernard. He revealed that he’s the only ghost able to leave Rycroft Manor and that others have powers that the rest don’t have. Such as, Agi can possess people.

Bernard attempted to convince Daphne to talk to Ronnie but are briefly interrupted by Michelle. After she left, Bernard continued his attempt, and Daphne gave in, only if Bernard kept a look out for Maurice. Later on, at Rycroft Manor, she and Ronnie talk. He revealed to her that the reason they broke up was that he was gay. They continue their conversation before Bernard accidentally interrupted, revealing to Ronnie that ghosts are real.

Maurice’s Attack

That night, Maurice confronted Daphne, having discovered that Ronnie knew about ghosts. Daphne attempted to tell him that Ronnie and Bernard meeting was not her fault, but he only got angrier and even threatened to eat her. Maurice attacked her, causing Daphne to yell and run. This got Ronnie and Bernard’s attention and Ronnie tried to stop Maurice, but it didn’t work.

Maurice chased Daphne and this alerted the other ghosts. He chased Daphne all the way to the roof and claimed that he had been feasting on humans that Agi got for him. Agi arrived and did a spell/ritual which caused him to disappear, and then she and Daphne went to talk in her room.

Daphne immediately confronted Agi about harming innocent people, but Agi claimed that they weren’t innocent. They ended their discussion with Agi telling Daphne to do a favor for her in the morning, otherwise she would possess Ronnie to do it.

Daphne agreed and the favor she had to do was bring flowers to Sean Terrell Boyd’s grave. However, his ghost appeared.

Zola Tesla’s Arrival

Angry, Daphne immediately went to confront Agi about the ghost, but she found all the ghosts together in one room and Ronnie informed her that the popstar had died and turned up there.

The next day, Daphne was speaking to the ghosts Ricky and Pam about school when she spotted the ghost Shirley. Daphne asked Shirley about Agi sending her to Sean’s grave and Shirley told her that Agi was probably just wanting to pay her respects to him, having known him when he was alive.

Shirley then asked for Daphne’s help with Zola, wanting her to talk to her about being a ghost. Daphne is hesitant at first but agreed and attempted to talk to Zola. However, she wasn’t that interested and left to see how far she close she could fly to the sun. Daphne bid her goodbye and told her that she was around if she wanted to talk.

Later, Zola took Daphne up on her offer and arrived in her room. They talked and Zola apologized for her distant behavior before. Daphne then offered to show her around and eventually they arrived at the basement. They found a guitar there and Zola began to teach her how to play, but then they heard Agi and Shirley coming so they hid. There, they overheard them discussing Maurice, before Zola called Daphne over to tell her that she had found a door but was unable to phase through it, like she could with everything else that was solid.

Kristi’s Arrival

The next day, Daphne and Zola discussed the door before they were interrupted by Shirley, who talked to Daphne about Sean and how Sean had been her son.

Daphne then went to her classes where she was surprised by Kristi, who had visited because Daphne hadn’t been answering her texts. They spent the day together doing various things. Daphne briefly went back to Rycroft Manor and Zola revealed to her that her powers were that she could do things with ghostly ink. Zola also told her that she had made her feel like herself again.

Daphne then left and went with Kristi to see comedians perform, but didn’t find them quite funny. They went back to Daphne’s dorm afterward but then got into an argument when Daphne was holding back information about Rycroft Manor. Daphne said that Kristi had been non-stop texting her constantly and that it was too much and Kristi left, upset.

Daphne then called Ronnie and they talked about her argument with Kristi.

The next day, Daphne and Ronnie discussed Kristi some more before Daphne revealed to Ronnie what she had learned about Rycroft Manor’s history and Agi’s history. However, Ronnie abruptly shut her down, stating that he needed to study. Daphne claimed that he was shaming something that she had discovered and liked on her own but Ronnie insisted that he wasn’t. They made up after that.

Back at Rycroft Manor, Daphne and Zola talked before joining the rest of the ghosts’ conversation, where Shirley revealed that she wanted to move on from Rycroft Manor, which shocked everyone.

Helping Shirley

Agi informed them that there was a ritual that could help and if it succeeded, Shirley could move on. However, she needed to perform it in a human body, meaning that she needed to possess Daphne. Zola didn’t want Daphne to do it because she thought it was too much of a risk for her and Shirley, but Daphne insisted on it, leaving Zola upset and floating away.

Agi then possessed Daphne and went to a local store to get some items necessary for the ritual. When she returned, she performed the ritual, and despite Shirley feeling something, she wasn’t freed. Agi then gave Daphne her body back and Daphne was very shaken up and left. She had said she was going to take a shower but went to Zola’s room instead.

Zola became protective, asking what Agi did to her, but Daphne explained that when Agi possessed her, she had felt empty and that she still did. That she was her mother’s desires and Kristi’s interests, and that Rycroft Manor had attracted her because she was a ghost of a human.

She began crying and Zola comforted her, hugged her.

Finding Herself

After being possessed, Daphne insisted that she needed to find herself so she didn’t feel empty. The first thing she did was jump into baking, which she was taught by Shirley to do. Having a break, Daphne then showed Zola an animation she had created to the the tune of one of Zola’s songs. However, Shirley alerted her that the baking had gone wrong.

Zola blamed Ricky since his powers was messing with objects and they got into an argument. Meanwhile, Daphne went down to the basement to grab the guitar to help Zola with a song. It was there that she noticed that that door was open and went inside to find that there was ink on the walls, but the ink didn’t look like Zola’s.

Daphne went back upstairs to ask Zola about it but found that she and Ricky were still arguing. Ricky insisted that Zola had used her ink powers to mess with his room but when he showed it to them, Daphne pointed out that the ink color wasn’t Zola’s and that it looked like the ink she had seen in the basement. She then went to Pam to see if she had noticed anything unusual lately and Pam revealed that she had had a nightmare for the first time since she had died.

Daphne began to worry that somehow Maurice was back and Zola comforted her. They then got the rest of the ghosts together and told them what was happening. Agi freaked out and raced to the basement, saying that she ritual she had done must’ve released a different soul.

Unravelling the Mystery

Daphne tried to open the door and follow Agi but it didn’t work. They went upstairs and discussed what had happened and how to help Agi. Pam then claimed that this was all normal and that whenever something unusual had happened before (for example, she mentioned that there was once blood in the pool) that Agi had said it was due to Rycroft Manor being old.

Daphne pointed out that Pam had been at the house the longest after Agi and asked her to tell her everything she knew about these unusual occurrences. During Pam’s explanation, Ronnie called Daphne to ask where she was, because she was supposed to be at a dance at college. She told him she’d be there soon.

She then rejoined the conversation and Shirley concluded that all these occurrences had happened when there was a new ghost. She was about to talk about how there hadn’t been a new ghost recently (besides Zola) when Daphne yelped when something happened with the plant.

Daphne went to change clothes and after she did, went with Zola back to the door. Zola theorized that if whatever was behind the door could mess with them, then Agi could, too. She used her ink and the ink transformed into the words “key” and “jewelry” and Daphne knew what this meant.

Daphne showed the ghosts a key she had seen when Agi possessed her. They quickly discovered that all the ghosts could hold the key, and voted that Daphne leave while they tried to unlock the door to keep her safe. Daphne wasn’t happy about that, but then Pam, being possessed by whatever was behind the door, went to attack Daphne. Agi stopped her and Pam returned to normal.

Daphne was convinced to leave and Zola told her to get dressed and go to that dance. They talked and Daphne suddenly realized that she could feel Zola so they kissed. Bernard then escorted Daphne to the dance.

The Phantom

At the dance, Daphne met some of Ronnie’s friends, and then told Ronnie everything that had happened. Ronnie was shocked and insisted that they leave and go back, so they did. They arrived just as the door opened and Agi appeared. However, she wasn’t alone. Another ghost – a phantom, as it was referred to – appeared and was angry. It had Agi tell everyone what she had done.

Agi revealed that when she had first bought Rycroft Manor, the phantom had been there. Seeking it as a thing that would step on her dream, she used a spell/ritual to lock it away, behind that door. The phantom ended up being the force to pull ghosts to Rycroft Manor and prevented them from leaving. Also, Agi’s brooch is what gave the ghosts their powers. The phantom went to eat Agi but then wanted to eat Daphne instead, but the other ghosts stopped it.

In the middle of Agi’s story, Zola had attempted to warn her about the human Michelle who had discovered Rycroft Manor and the existence of ghosts but Daphne quieted her, thinking she meant Ronnie. However, Michelle appeared with a knife and, blaming the ghosts on Daphne, attacked her with it. Daphne was able to fight her off and make her drop the knife.

Agi then instructed Daphne to stab the brooch she was wearing through the phantom to stop it. Daphne was hesitant, not wanting to hurt her, but did it when Agi insisted. However, Agi got hurt in the process, and disappeared just like the phantom did, leaving everyone distraught.

Then – Ricky discovered that the ghosts now had the ability to leave Rycroft Manor.

Afterward, Daphne met with her college advisor to change her course from pre-med to animation, realizing that that was what she really wanted to do. She was told what she needed to do to get accepted into the animation program and a part of that was submitting an animation.

Returning to Rycroft Manor, Daphne saw that the ghosts were dealing with Maurice, who, when vanquished, returned as a ball of ghosty energy. She provoked it into following her where she led it to that basement door and locked it behind there, even though they weren’t sure it would hold.

Then, Daphne and Zola went for a walk, and Zola revealed that she wasn’t planning on leaving Rycroft Manor/Daphne now that she was free to. Daphne then went to go and get ownership of Rycroft Manor, which she succeeded in obtaining.

When she went back, everyone threw a going-away party for Pam, who had decided to leave.

A couple days later, Daphne and Kristi FaceTimed and Daphne revealed the animation she was going to submit: an animation called “The Ghosts of Rycroft Manor”.
