David Qin

 Origin

Born  Yousaka Takahashi the son of a powerful Yakuza leader and a military nurse mother stationed in Japan.  A trained black belt he was raised in L.A. and became a gang-leader himself at the age of 15. His turning point was when he held a dying gang victim in his arms as he passed away. In atonement for his past he took the dead boys name and found God.

Creation

Following years as a comic strip writer Terry Moore  developed a comic book series from a single drawing he made of a group of 4 friends. This one picture lead him to think who these people were and how they come to be int he same room. An idea that was too grand for a strip this required a comic book format to contain the scope of the story. One of them was the sensitive,  floppy  haired, meek man character and combined with the sketch David Qin was born. The result was Strangers in Paradise  published by  Abstract Studios .

Character Evolution

Probably of all the characters in SIP David’s is the most diverse and from the humble meek beginnings  you would never guess at his linage and violent past.

Major Story Arcs

Born  Yousaka Takahashi the son of a powerful Yakuza leader and a military nurse mother stationed in Japan.  A trained black belt he was raised in L.A. and became a gang-leader himself at the age of 15. His turning point was when he held a dying gang victim in his arms as he passed away. In atonement for his past he took the dead boys name and found God.

He and his half sister Darcy  are opposites of the same coin. Darcy grows to become one of the most powerful women in the United States, controlling the Parker Group (a collection of female only assassins, prostitutes and spies). Their cousin Veronica was a member and committed particularly violent and self-serving acts while with the group.

Returning to his sisters mansion for the first time in years he meets her companion and lover Katinia, who is far too drunk to recall the incident ever happening. Years later Katina has run away with a $850,000 of Darcy’s money and been in hiding. When she emerges to return home David is sent by his sister to spy on her, a job his is all too willing to take as he has been smitten with her from the first time he saw her.
He doggedly peruses her, his unrequited advances hardly ever taking away his hopes of being with her.

When Darcy is murdered at the hands of her own organisation there is a power struggle and David inherits $1.4 billion and control of his sisters estate. But he then becomes a target of an airliner sabotage that near kills him and Katchoo.

It takes a long time but does seem to make a full recovery and after many years of cohabitating with Francine and Katchoo she eventually agrees to marry him and the pair move to Hawaii. After a time they split and David returns to Japan where he meditates. During this time Tambi forces him to try and impregnate her for an heir to the Baker/Takahashi families but the pregnancy does not take. After some time he is brought back into Katinka and Francine’s life.

Many years since the crash David has headaches which slowly get worse and worse until he starts to vomit and even pass-out. His brain was damaged and there is little to be done. Casey coaches the two into a marathon sex session over many days in order to get Katina pregnant with David’s child.

David passes away and Katina is indeed pregnant. In the reading of his will, contrary to his promise to use up all the money for good works, he leaves everything to Katchoo and that is all. He also leaves 4 letters to be read out to Katchoo, Francine, Tambi and Casey and many truths are revealed.  He confirms he knows Tambi killed his sister and that Katchoo and Fran need to look to the love they have for each other. The largest bombshell being that Casey is a plant by Tambi.

Finally it is reveal he has at least one other step sister he never knew Yoshiko. She is being followed and was about to be informed of her heritage, brothers health and all that implies when David dies and Tambi calls off the operation, she walks on never knowing her history.
