Deep was a hit man who did wet work for an unidentified “Eastern” (unknown if this meant Middle Eastern of East Asian) intelligence agency. When he was apprehended, his government abandoned him to the US authorities. He was imprisoned on Ryker’s Island, and was the cellmate of Alfredo Morelli; Morelli leaked his location to Barrett Gage, an ambitious mercenary looking to make a name for himself. Hoping to recruit Deep to his team The Warforce, Gage scaled an attack of Ryker’s, but was stopped by Nightwatch and Spider-Man, leaving Deep stuck in jail.
