Dei Matsuri

Origin

Matsuri is a half-japanese half-english girl who was raised by her grandparents while her parents where travelling overseas due to them being big fashion designers. Because of being raised by her grandparents, she eventually adopted their Tokyo Shimatachi (low-town) dialect. Alongside this, she’s also in love with festivals, and does the best she can so that everyone there can be happy.

Creation

Matsuri was created by Nakamura Rikito (writer) and Yukiko Nozawa (artist), and she first appeared in Weekly Young Jump No. 53 from 2023, in the 159th chapter of The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You.

The name Dei Matsuri (????) is composed of 4 different kanjis, with her name (??) specifically being another way to say festival in japanese (normally ?? is used).

Character Evolution

Appearance

Matsuri is normally seen wearing a Gothic Lolita dress. Which can be justified due to her being half-english, the correlation being that Lolita fashion is based around clothing from the Victorian Era and the Rococo Period (despite the latter being from France). Her dress also has the particularity of having rolled up sleeves. Matsuri also has rather long hair.

Personality

Apart from having a Tokyo Shimatachi accent, Matsuri also does her best so that no one is sad during a festival, as she considers festivals to be a place where frowns are turned upside down. This philosophy also makes her think that people should come to festivals only to “concentrate” on having fun there, as she considers that people who go there to confess their love or to hit on someone only see festivals as mere tools.
