Derinoe was a young, black-haired Amazon as well as a friend and lover to Queen Aclippe‘s daughter Hippolyta. Upon Aclippe’s poison by Charax of the Spartans and Hippolyta’s rise as Queen, Derinoe began to develop a hatred of men. This escalated when Derinoe, in defending Hippolyta from a wraith-like assassin, lost all her youth and turned into a haggardly old woman who could not love the Queen and even sadly watched as she consummated with Zeus. When Wonder Woman takes the Throne and begins to reintegrate the lost Brothers of Themyscria, Derinoe vows to stop her from leading her people towards the same mistakes her lost love made and creates Donna Troy, with the aid of Hecate, to lead the Amazons and slaughter the men.
