An expert warrior with steel boomerangs, Elle’s older brother was a valle in training with every hope of becoming a sevalle when a plague swept through the village where the Ragu family was living. The plague killed the Ragu parents and left Elle (then eight years old) critically ill. So Dias gave up his valle training to hire out as a mercenary in the Kurudan army in order to earn money for Elle’s medicines and foster care. During this time, he became friends with Scarface, Kai Sink, and Kain Phalanx. He is introduced in the TV series as living a solitary life as a master smith for weapons in a ghost town called Prorathan (Blorahan), and under the shadow of a wasting disease. Elle loves him dearly, even if she rarely gets to see him; and the feeling is mutual, as he adopts Gau and confides in the younger man his concerns for his baby sister.
