Django Maximoff

Origin

The (adoptive) father of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Django Maximoff was a man who was married to a woman named Marya. He and his wife were members of the tribe of nomads known as the Rom commonly referred to as Gypsies. Django was a human who had access to the woods of Wundagore mountain, which contained the magical energies of the demon Clthon. He used a magical item known as the Nivashi Stone in order to animate inanimate objects and cast illusions, and believed that the stone was what allowed him to use the wood of Wundagore. He worked as a doll maker, in Transia. He carved a number of dolls from the wood of Wundagore mountain. Therefore the dolls possessed great magical potential.

Django and Marya had children named Ana and Mateo. Though through unspecified circumstances they lost their children. Later the high Evolutionary gave them children (Pietro and Wanda Maximoff) instructing them to secretly raise them as their own, replacing their own lost children.

Creation

Django Maximoff was created by Jim Shooter and John Byrne and first appeared in The Avengers Vol.1 issue 166 (1977). He was always portrayed as being the adoptive father of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.

However, more recently it was hinted in Uncanny Avengers Volume 2 that Magneto and Magda Lehnsherr where not truly the twins’ parents. It was hinted by the High Evolutionary that Django and Marya Maximoff where Pietro’s and Wanda’s true parents all along.
