Rumsfeld strongly supported the invasion of Iraq, along with Vice-President Dick Cheney, on the belief that Saddam Hussein had stockpiled weapons of mass destruction and that they were hidden somewhere in Iraq. However, such turned out not to be the case. Secretary Rumsfeld was at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, when a plane flew into the Pentagon in a terrorist attack. Rumsfeld was not hurt in the attack.
