Dr. Cardo’s monster is a creation of Dr. Cardo under the orders of Red Dugan, who is the “vicious captain of a pirate ship”. Red Dugan plans to use the monster to take revenge on a rival pirate gang that tried to kill him. The monster is described as “half-man, half fish” as Dr. Cardo explains it has the “claws of a lobster…the teeth of a tiger shark…and the mind of a barracuda”. After being assured by Dr. Cardo that the monster will obey Red implicitly, Red orders the monster kill Cardo. Red thinks the monster kills Cardo, but Cardo survives the attack.
