Dr. Frank Payne

HISTORY

A story relayed by The Witch to her cat, Lucifer.

Neighbors are surprised when the empty Wallace House is suddenly used by Dr. Wade as an office. John Payne visits the doctor about some heart pain he’s experiencing. Wade delivers the bad news that John is dying, and further states it’s too bad that John is dying while his wicked brother, Dr. Frank Payne, will go on living.

John decides to murder Frank, partially because his brother cheated John out of his portion of their father’s inheritance. After he is arrested, John is convicted of murder and sentenced to death. John is not concerned, as he thinks he’s dying anyway.

The Witch continues to tell the events prior to Dr. Payne’s murder. While Dr. Wallace worked on a surgery with Payne, the patient died. Payne blamed Wallace for the failure. This ruined Wallace, and the wrongfully disgraced doctor killed himself.

Returning to the John Payne, the prison doctor gives him a clean bill of health right before his execution. John is shocked at the revelation and dies of a heart attack.

Finishing her story, The Witch reveals that Dr. Wade was the ghost of Dr. Wallace seeking revenge on Dr. Payne.
