Dr. Odd

Creation

Dr.Odd is a character created by Bill Willingham and Mike Leeke and was published in the mini series titled Pantheon, Welcome to the Machine. Lone Star Press introduced these characters in Pantheon # 1 in 2007. He seems to be an amalgam of Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic Four.

Dr. Odd is a scientific individual with a clear ego adhered to himself. His former marriage to Afterlife and his current relationship with Hotstreak create tension within the team, and he lacks respect for his teammates in heated moments. He also seems to be easily offended, to the point that his appearance fluctuates as a result. When working with Daedelus, however, he is quite confident in logical thinking on his part.

Powers and Abilities

While his overall character is completely inspired by Mr. Fantastic, a major point of deviation is his powers. Dr. Odd’s body is composed of a gelatinous nature that acts more like an amoeba than a rubber band. He can stretch his forms large distance and change his appearance, but his body can also become unstable and contain things in it. He seems to constantly switch between being solid enough to constrict and hold, or loose enough to get things to become trapped in him.

In one issue, Dr. Odd digests one of the Pantheon’s members into his amorphous belly, and it’s implied by people that he absorbs things into himself to get substance, rather than eat with his mouth. The same manner of absorption is also how he captures pint-sized Gulliver and Menagerie in his fingers before ejecting them. As such, it seems the gelatinous nature of his body means that being splattered or losing a section won’t affect him in the long run.

Despite his balding and grey hair, Dr. Odd is in great shape for a man his age and most likely is versed in hand-to-hand combat, as well as a respected scientist. It’s possible that his powers help boost his healthy figure.
