Professor Ramsey Norton was trying to help solve world hunger by creating a growth formula but it was uncontrollable and destroyed anything it came in contact with. Ramsey scrapped the formula and put it into a well of chemicals from his other failed experiments which he called Chemo. The mixture of chemicals gave Chemo sentience and it became the destructive creature that would eventually destroy Bludhaven.
