Dr. Weird

Origin

Dr. Rex Ward was a 25th-century scientist who used a time machine to travel to 1941. Stepping from the time machine, he was murdered. He was denied entry to Heaven for being a man who died before he was born. As a ghost, he is charged with the duty to fight supernatural evil, until his lifetime reach the moment he was alive.

Publishing History

It should be noted, in real life, that the character was created for the fanzine comic Star-Studded Comics, where he was the most popular superhero. Howard Keltner, creator of Dr. Weird and one of The Texas Trio (creators of Star-Studded) sold the rights to the character to Gary Carlson of Big Bang Comics and Ed DeGeorge.

Inspiration

Despite similarities to Marvel Comics’ Doctor Strange, Aarkus, and DC Comics’ Spectre, the character was inspired by Mr. Justice from MLJ (Archie Comics).
