Origin
Ebony Jones was an agent of the British Special Missions Squad.
Creation
Ebony was originally conceived to appear in a prospective new girls’ comic intended to break away from the traditional mold of angst-ridden teen characters in favour of all action heroines. When the decision was taken not to go forward with the title, editor Bill Graham felt that Ebony was too good a concept to waste, and so transferred her to boys’ comic The Crunch, where she debuted in issue 39, October 13th 1979, thus earning her a place in British comics history as the first Black female lead character in a British comic.
Character Development
A top British agent, Ebony worked with fellow agent Bleak. When Nazi war criminals took him prisoner in Merando, Italy, it was up to Ebony to rescue him.
