El Monje Loco

Origin

His name forgotten with his madness El Monje Loco sees things that no one else knows about or believes. He spends his days and nights in an abandoned monastery having his visions of murder, vampires, monsters and mayhem, chortling about them and playing the monastery’s pipe organ as he intones the words “Nadie sabe, nadie supo, la verdad sobre el pavoroso caso de…” (No one knows, nobody knew, the truth about the dreadful case of…) ending the tale with macabre laughter.

Creators

Created by Carlos Riveroll del Prado and Pedro de Urdimalas, El Monje Loco was the host of a horror radio program on XAM radio in Mexico in 1937. Instantly popular the character was soon introduced into the pages of a comic by the title of Chamaco in 1940.

In 1953 the character and his stories became part of the bi-weekly Cuentos de Abuelito, which also included an illegal version of Bêlit of the BlackCoast and Conan.

In 1967 he got his own title which ran for 168 issues.

El Monje Loco has also appeared in two films and a television series.
