In order to fulfill her dutiesa as a slayer Elizabeth Weston had to give up her identity as a woman thus creating the alias, Edward Weston. Disguised as a man she was abled to run about freely on a hunt as the clothes were more complimentary during a chase and a battle. He disguise also came in handy as the vampires kept as eye out for the “female” slayer and were not as cautious around men.
