Etienne Marceaux was Remy’s younger cousin. He was killed when they were attempting to escape from the Pig before they are admitted into the Guild. Remy was deeply hurt by his death, especially since he was Etienne’s protector at the time and he felt a deep sense of guilt. Theoren held Gambit responsible to an extent.
