At the dawn of the second millenium, the Armistice was frequently visited by Pilgrims who came there to worship. One time, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse murdered all the worshippers. One child survived the massacre and was adopted by Conquest. It named the child Ezra Orion and raised the child to be the keeper of the sacred Message. Ezra oversaw the building of the a spire in the midst of the Armistice, where later the Chosen would gather.
