Fisher King

Origin

The Fisher King was born in the prisons of Amenth among the other Arrakii. Although, he considered himself among them, he never developed a mutant power (a weapon, as the Arrakii call it). Despite this, he refused to bend his knee to Annihilation and continued to fight back against the Locus Vile. To protect him from their psychics, he had his identity psychically amputated when he was just 6 years old and is now a man without a name as well as a man without a weapon.

Creation

Fisher King debuted in X-Men: Red #1 by Al Ewing and Stefano Caselli.

Meeting Zsora

When he was 15, Fisher King was going to attempt to assassinate Tarn the Uncaring when he is stopped by Zsora of the Spirit Flame. She talks him out of what would surely be a suicide mission. He would fall in love with Zsora and have two daughters, Weaponless Zsen and Khora of the Burning Heart.

By the time he was 45, he had joined the Night Seats, a clandestine branch of the Great Ring of Arakko, along with his wife and his sister-in-law, Syzya of the Smoke. Together, they planned on attacking Ora Serrata and freeing the Great Ring from the law so that it may act against Annihilation. Unfortunately, they were captured as Genesis spied on them using her chlorokinesis on their gut flora. As punishment, Zsora is killed by Famine in front of their daughters.

Blaming him, his daughters defected to the Locus Vile and allowed themselves to be genetically altered into warriors, while Fisher King continued to rebel.

Red Planet

Brotherhood of Arakko

Fisher King settles on Mars, after the mutants of Krakoa terraform it into a livable environment. While the rest of the Arakki settle on a mainland continent, Fisher King is happy to call a small lonely island his home. Magneto also set his eyes on the small lonely island, and the two made quick friends over sharing it. This meeting was arranged by Fisher King and Sunspot, who thad joined Fisher on the Night Seats.

As Magneto is drawn into the politics of Arakko thanks to Storm and Sunspot, so is Fisher King. They form the Brotherhood of Arakko to defend the new planet from new threats, including Abigail Brand‘s X-Men Red team, which also claimed to be defending them. He was also forced to spring into action when Druig of the Eternals determined mutants were Deviants and attempted to end them. Fellow Arakki, Isca the Unbeaten, whose weapon is to never lose, would side with the Eternals, signifying their destined victory. Fisher King took it upon himself to challenge her.

Fisher challenges her to a contest of understanding, the one who most understands loss wins. Isca wins, as she always does, but she is also overwhelmed with guilt from this understanding and walks away from Arakko.

Genesis War

Bonded to Xilo

Genesis, working on a tip she received for Orchis, Earth’s anti-mutant organization that has attacked Krakoa, attacked Arakko. She caused a schism among the Arakki between those that agree with her survival of the fittest mentality and those that don’t. Her aim was to rewrite the history of Arakko, so Fisher King bonded with Xilo, the Great Ring’s resident historian, to retain as much of their records as they can.

Fisher King studied the geography of Arakko and determined Genesis would make a move by say of the sea. Her first wave would be a giant sea creature that was easily slain, however, her ability to control plants raised an Okkara Gate from his gut flora allowing the full force of her army to descend on Arakko.

As Storm’s forces stand against Genesis’, Fisher King confront Ora Serrata. He carried Xilo to him so that Xilo could merge with Ora’s knowledge of the law. The trauma of Xilo detaching from Fisher King left him mortally wounded, finally sacrificing himself like he tried to do back in the prison for his wife, Zsora.
