Frank Rone

History

As brothers Arthur and Frank Rone grew up, their lives took on very different directions. While Arthur became a respected police officer, Frank became a career criminal. In 1943, Arthur caught Frank in the middle of a robbery but Frank overpowered his brother and managed to escape. Shortly after this encounter, Frank Rone decided to break into the home of the costumed adventurer, Whizzer. It is unclear how Frank knew where Whizzer lived and presumably the house would have belonged to Whizzer’s secret identity, meaning that Frank somehow knew Whizzer’s secret identity. Inside the home, Frank knocked out Whizzer’s sidekick Whitewash Jones and broke into Whizzer’s personal safe. Before he could do any more pilfering, Frank heard a noise and escaped with the first thing he could grab – Whizzer’s diary.

Lamenting the fact that all he scored was fifty dollars and the diary, Frank begins to leaf through the manuscript. Inside he finds that the diary contains the secret to Whizzer’s power. Frank somehow duplicates the process and decides to use his new powers to aid his criminal career. His first order of business is to rob the Univseral Bank and frame his brother Arthur for the job. Around this time Whizzer realizes that his home has been burglarized when Whitewash Jones complains about Whizzer hitting him, which the hero claims he never did. Somehow Whizzer makes a connection between Arthur Rone’s arrest and his stolen diary.

Whitewash Jones ends up spotting Frank and tipping off the Whizzer, after which a chase ensues between the two speedsters. Simultaneously, Arthur Rone decides that the only way to clear his name is to break out of prison. The Frank and Whizzer’s chase takes them all around the world and along the way Whizzer decides to perform some heroic deeds. Eventually, Frank decides he can’t outrun the Whizzer and forces a confrontation. Frank shoots at Whizzer and Whizzer is easily able to dodge most of the bullets. However, when one is about to meet its mark, Frank’s brother Arthur leaps in front of it. With Frank distracted at shooting his own brother, Whizzer manages to overcome him and turn him over to the authorities.

Powers and Abilities

Frank Rone possesses all the same superpowers as the Whizzer. Frank possessed the ability to move at superhuman rates of speed. Frank could run at speeds of up to 100 miles an hour for up to an hour before fatigue impaired his performance. His practical reaction time was about four times faster than an ordinary human being’s and the speed at which his brain processed information was heightened to a level commensurate with his bodily speed, enabling him to perceive his surroundings while traveling at high velocities.

Frank’s entire body mutated in ways that adapted it for the rigors of high speed running. His cardiovascular and respiratory systems were many times more efficient than those of a normal human being’s. He metabolized an estimated 75% of the caloric energy content of foodstuffs. The chemical processes of the Frank’s metabolism were so highly enhanced that his body generated unusually low amounts of fatigue poisons, the normal by-products of locomotion which force the body to rest. His joints were smoother and were lubricated more efficiently than those of an ordinary human being’s. His tendons had the tensile strength of spring steel. His bones contained unknown materials significantly more durable than calcium to withstand the dynamic shocks of his feet touching the ground at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Frank’s lachrymose was more viscous than a normal human being’s, thus preventing rapid evaporation and replenishment of surface fluids on his eyeballs under the influence of high wind velocity to occlude his vision.

Frank possessed superhuman strength, primarily in his lower body as part of his body’s adaptations for running. With his upper body he could lift slightly more than a normal human being of his age, height, and build who engaged in intensive regular exercise could. In his prime, the Whizzer could leg press approximately 1500 pounds under optimal conditions.

Although Frank possesses Whizzer’s superhuman abilities, Frank doesn’t have the same rigorous training as Whizzer, so it appears that he wasn’t quite as fast or agile as him.
