Creation
Freon was created for the Batman Beyond cartoon TV-series. The Terrific Trio were originally set to appear in the original Batman Beyond tie in comics, however due to DC’s worry that Marvel would create a lawsuit or a legal problem for DC for this parody since the copyright laws are different from series to comics, their stories didn’t come to print. Although despite this Freon eventually made it into the comics without the rest of her team.

Batman Beyond Cartoon
In the future world of Batman Beyond, Mary Michaels was Mike Morgan’s fiancée until the day she was exposed to the radiation that turned her into a gaseous, freezing being. Together with her teammates, Mary adopted a new moniker and joined the government-sponsored team, the “Terrific Trio”.
When the Trio learned that Dr. Hodges was behind the accident, in an attempt to pry Mary from Morgan, Freon spurned him and the team decided to punish him accordingly. At that point, Batman engaged the team and activated a ventilation system, which pulled Freon in, seemingly killing her in her genetically unstable condition.
Batman Beyond Comics
It was later revealed that Dr. Hodges saved Mary from death, keeping her stable in a containment that appeared to turn her blue skin to green, making Freon the only survivor of the Terrific Trio. However her near death experience would result in her mind becoming unstable, blaming Batman for everything that happened to her, and sought out to kill him. Batman and The Stalker worked together to defeat her, as she continued to cry for her husband and dead friend, believing it to all be Terry’s fault. Her mind is shown to be far from what it once was, and unable to even understand that Batman was the one who tried to help them.
