Gargantua T. Potts was first seen in Action Comics #15 as a deckhand being beaten for laziness. After Tex Thomson comes to his aid he decides to quit his job on the ship and work for Tex, who made no such offer but accepts him anyway. He acts as Tex’s servant for several issues until he is said to have left to be a cook in the French army in Action Comics #26.
