Gendry

Origin

Gendry is the bastard son of Robert Baratheon, born to a common tavern wench in King’s Landing. He bears a striking resemblance to the king, being tall and very muscled, with jet black hair and blue eyes. When he was old enough, an unknown lord paid his apprentice fee so he could learn to be a blacksmith under Tobho Mott, a master armorer. He is of the same age as Robb Stark.

Creation

The “Game of Thrones” series has been adapted from the book of the same name, part of the series “A Song of Ice and Fire”, written by George R. R. Martin. Gendry first appeared in Game of Thrones #8.

Current Events

When Eddard Stark is investigating the death of the previous Hand of the King, Jon Arryn, he meets several people that Arryn had met with shortly before his death, including Gendry. Upon meeting the boy, Ned immediately recognizes that he is Robert’s bastard son. Ned tells his master to send the boy to him if he ever shows an interest in wielding a sword. Gendry shows promise as a blacksmith, having made a helmet in the shape of a bull’s head. Ned compliments it and offers to purchase the helmet, but Gendry refuses, to the shame of his master.
