In junior high, Miki and Ginta liked each other, but hadn’t admitted it yet. Ginta was planning on telling Miki, but his friends got in the way when they put him on the spot and asked him if he liked her, because they liked her too. He lied and said she was too much of a tomboy for him to like her that way. But Miki overheard him and ran away with a broken heart.
In high school, the two are back to being good friends, and are on the tennis team together.
When Miki’s new stepbrother Yuu transfers to their school, it stirs up old feelings and jealousy in Ginta. While doing some after-school work, Ginta kisses Miki aggressively, and she slaps him and runs away. He shows up at her house later, and confesses that he has always loved her. But Miki doesn’t know how she feels about him anymore.
Ginta tells Miki that he doesn’t want to lose her to a guy like Yuu Matsuura, but Miki is so shocked, she can’t give him an answer, so she asks him to wait for her to figure things out. He agrees to wait, but tension builds between them.
When Yuu’s ex-girlfriend Arimi shows up, she convinces Ginta to pretend to go out with her, to make Miki jealous. It seems to work, but Miki decides to let Arimi have Ginta rather than take him for herself, and Ginta realizes the plan has backfired, so he tells Miki it was all and act and that he and Arimi don’t really like each other. But Miki still doesn’t say yes to Ginta.
Personality:
Ginta has a pretty fragile ego, and is naturally competitive, so many of his actions towards girls are steeped in misogyny (kissing Miki against her will; threatening to beat up Yuu if he ever makes Miki cry; punching a guy he assumed was cheating on Arimi), but the characters forgive him. He eventually gets over Miki and falls in love with Arimi.
