Golden Glider

Origin

The daughter of an abusive alcoholic and a runaway mother, Lisa Snart was raised in poverty on the outskirts of Central City. A skilled figure skater, she was left behind by her older brother Lenny when he left home, in the hope that she would pursue skating as a career and not follow him into crime. Instead she tagged along with her brother, spending time with his Rogues and falling in love with Mirror Master. When Lenny decided to get an edge on the Flash by merging his team with their weapons, she is caught in the blast and severely injured.

Creation

Lisa Snart was created by Cary Bates and Irv Novick. Her first appearance was in The Flash #250.

Character Evolution

Bronze Age

When she was initially introduced, Lisa did become professionally involved in figure skating and was coached by her lover, the Top. Following Top’s death at the hands of the Flash she went mad with grief and swore vengeance. This is what caused her turn to crime. In her Bronze and Modern Age appearances she has no superhuman powers or abilities. Instead, she wears a pair of technologically advanced skates that allow her to skate on any surface, including the air.

New 52

The New 52 introduced her current origin and erased her death from continuity. There is much less focus on her skating, and she has gained metahuman powers. Also in this appearance she is younger than she was previously, and has a much more dominant personality, frequently taking control of the Rogues and defying her brother.

Major Story Arcs

The Flash

Dedicated to revenge, Golden Glider attacks the Flash several times, often in conjunction with her brother and occasionally along with the Rogues as well. After Barry Allen’s death she renounces crime, and she and her brother open a bounty hunting firm.

Chillblaine

Unable to keep on the straight and narrow, she finds a dumb but loyal man to act as her new partner, outfitting him with her brother’s old weapons and calling him Chillblaine. On their first outing, she is possessed by Eclipso and murders Chillblaine. She continues to recruit new Chillblaines, all of whom die shortly after. The fourth and final Chillblaine catches onto the pattern, and kills her.

Blackest Night

During the Blackest Night she is among the Rogues who are resurrected by the Black Lantern rings. She attacks Iron Heights with her fellow dead Rogues. When the living Rogues arrive she targets Cold, attempting to exploit his love for her in order to defeat him. He suppresses his love for her and freezes her. She breaks free, but is ultimately frozen along with the other dead Rogues when they are consumed by the paradox of the Reverse Flash.

Rogues

Following the explosion that gives her her powers, she is dying of a brain tumour. Her brother manages to save her by stealing a laser to operate on her tumour, but her body remains bed-bound. She projects her astral form and begins gathering the old Rogues into a new team to commit new crimes.

Gorilla Warfare

She leads her team in a successful train heist, at the same time nearly framing Flash for the attempted murder of Darwin Elias. However, her plan is halted by the arrival of Gorilla Grodd’s invasion force. She and the team fight the gorillas, and she is instrumental in helping to pull the hostages and the illusion projection machines into the Mirror World, ruining the gorillas’ plans.

Forever Evil

After their successful heroics, and fed up with Mirror Master’s intangibility, she tries to pull her lover out of the Mirror World. She succeeds, but her physical body’s heart fails and her mind and astral body fall into a coma. Later, when the Rogues are under attack by the Secret Society of Super Villains and the Royal Flush Gang she is awakened from her coma by Pied Piper’s music. She joins her team and devises a plan to defeat their many attackers. She turns her team intangible while the other villains are pushed into a mirror, which is then shattered by Trickster.

Race of Thieves

Glider is invited to take part in Roulette’s Race of Thieves, along with Mirror Master. They run Catwoman a close race, but do not win.

Powers and Abilities

Glider is capable of astral projection. In her projected form she is capable of flying, phasing through solid surfaces, hypnotizing or mentally captivating others, and moving quickly or teleporting from place to place. She also has prehensile ribbon-like tendrils that she can use to wrap around people and objects to lift or throw them, to cut others, and to project intangibility onto others. She is also quite intelligent, and a skilled leader and tactician.

Alternate Versions

Teen Titans Go!

A version of Glider appears in this adaptation of the television series. In this version her name is Ice Kate, and she is part of a super villain duo with her brother, Kid Kold.

Flashpoint

In the Flashpoint alternate timeline, Lisa shot and killed her abusive father while he was attacking her and her brother. She is kidnapped from Iron Heights and killed by the Rogues as payback for her brother’s crime fighting activities.

Injustice: Gods Among Us

Glider appears alongside the Rogues as an escaped prisoner who agrees to side with Batman against Superman and the Regime.

The Flash

Glider appears in several episodes of this show, generally in conjunction with her brother and his growing team of Rogues. She makes her first appearance in the episode “Rogue Time.” She is portrayed by Peyton List.
