Grolf is a storm giant of Jotunheim that comes across the wife of Vidar Odinson at her home in the Asgard Mountains. Grolf and two fellow giants named Horvald and Aslak harass his wife, Solveig and disrespects her husband’s name because he is the son of King Odin and a turncoat giantess named Grid. Grolf starts to kill her livestock and ends up killing Solveig by stabbing her with troll-iron when she fights back. The giants steal her golden buckle which Vidar crafted for her. Vidar finds his dead wife without her belt and vows revenge.
Creation
Grolf was created by Alan Zelenetz and Bob Budiansky in 1984 and first appeared in Thor Annual # 12.
