Gumbo lives in the fictional town of Shootin’ Creek. His best gal’s name is Honeydew Crawfisher, the daughter of the local sheriff, L.P. Crawfisher. Gumbo is well liked by everyone in Shootin’ Creek due to his screwball sense of humor and good-natured personality. Even cranky ol’ Sheriff Crawfisher admits to liking him once when it appears that Gumbo has died, even though the two don’t usually see eye to eye.
In his first appearance, Gumbo attempted to help L.P. Crawfisher with his campaign to be reelected sheriff in order to impress Honeydew. Gumbo did more harm than good at first, but ultimately it was due to him that Sheriff Crawfisher won the election.
Gumbo has great skills in tracking and detection due to having taken a corespondance course for detectives. He is also an expert fighter. His favorite wrestler was Handsome Bill, until he found out Bill was a phony.
Gumbo may be slightly dim, but he’s smart enough to know when rich folks are making fun of him and turn it around on them.
Gumbo almost always can be seen wearing his trademark outfit of white, button-down shirt with patches on the elbows, black vest, blue jeans with patches on the knees, and of course his coonskin cap with a feather in it, which he’s worn since he was a kid.
