Creators
Created by Wayne Boring and later taken over by J. B. Cole, Gregory Gayle started out as a supporting character in the adventures of Toni Gayle, his main schtick being to say he didn’t want her doing any crime-busting, only to come at the end of the story with the police to clean things up after she had solved the crime.
Later he was given his own series as Gunmaster Gregory Gayle when he became the second lead in Guns Against Gangsters, in these Toni sometimes acted as a secondary character to him, or didn’t appear at all.
However the main thing distinguishing the Gunmaster strip was that each one ended with one or two full pages devoted to the guns involved in the story with perhaps the second page featuring the history of the shoulder holster or telescopic rifle sight.
When Toni Gayle was changed from a fashion model / detective adventure strip, to being high-school comedies about a student /model who was also renamed Toni Gay, Gunmaster was also changed to be shown only as her long suffering father Mr. Gay.
