Harriet Quimby

Overview 

Harriet Quimby was born in Arcadia, Michigan, USA, in May 11, 1875. In 1911, she made history by being the first woman to gain a pilots license in the United States. This just being one of her notable accomplishments as an aviatrix. Around the same time, she also worked as a movie screenwriter and even appeared in one of the movies she was associated with. She was also a respected photo journalist who was well traveled and curious about the world. In 1912, Harriet became the first woman to fly the English Channel. Despite her relative short life, Harriet was somewhat of a cult and inspirational figure, particularly among those well versed in aviation.
