Harry Bertram, though being a lord, was impoverished by his father. He married Lalita, the daughter of a Scottish doctor, for her dowry. But their wedding was loveless after she failed to give him a child. Unbeknown to him, his wife was impregnated with an insectoid egg by her maid and lover Mariah. One night, Lalita passed the egg on to Harry. Immediately he became ill and after a while, the egg gestated and killed him. His body was found six months later by the police washed up in the Thames, tangled in fishing nets.
