Headless Horseman

Origin

Striking terror into the hearts of desperados in the old west The Headless Horseman, a gunslinger seemingly without a head, appeared out of nowhere and dealt justice to those who would rob from the innocent.

Creators

One of the oddest Golden-Age heroines had to be Betty Warren who appeared in only two stories, one in Amazing Mystery Funnies and one in Arrow Comics, both in 1940, as The Headless Horseman a seemingly headless gunslinger to battled bank robbers in the old west.

She pulled this off via a clever disguise that made her seem to be male, taller than her natural height (even without a head) and sans noggin together she and her wonder horse Black Beauty fought your basic western owlhoots and bandits.

In her second story, found in Arrow Comics, she had to deal with the old pulp hero trope of the villain who looks just like hero, or in her case someone who has also figured out the headless getup and started a gang.

Oh yeah, and he also had a condescending dim-bulb sheriff boyfriend.
