Heliogabalus

He was born around 203 in Emese, Syria. He is the son of Julia Soæmias and Varius Marcellus. Through his mother, he is the great-grandson of Julius Bassianus of Emesa, the grandnephew by marriage of Emperor Septimius Severus, who had married his great-aunt Julia Domna in second marriage, and the nephew of Caracalla. The women, who were called “the Syrian princesses”, are inseparable from the fate of Heliogabalus.
