A man shrouded in much mystery, he worked as the jaeger (“like a game warden or park ranger, but more so”) for a company-run frontier town. Company regulators mention that Henry had no other relatives or connections (“like a pod person”) and they showed great interest in his eldest son’s whereabouts for unknown reasons. Also unknown was what happened to the boy’s mother, who was gone before the boy could remember and Henry refused to discuss.
During one of the boy’s periodic disappearances, Henry apparently died. The company regulators offered the boy a deal to keep his father’s home, but he refused and began his wandering, often using the name Jaeger Ayers.
