Hightower

Origin

Hightower’s alt-mode is a Truss Crane. He is a member of the Decepticons and part of the team known as the Constructicons. He forms the right leg of the Combiner Devastator.

Creation

Hightower was created for the Hasbro Transformers Collectors’ Club #14 by writer Dan Khanna and Forest Lee. He was later used in the 2009 Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Movie. He is based on the original Contructicon Hook (who was only in someToy versions of Devastator and did not appear in the Movie). He was created due to Hasbro’s loss of the Hook Trademark.

The Constructicons were among the troops that Megatron covertly rebuilt on Earth after Bludgeon‘s defeat and exile. Both Hook and Mixmaster were absent from team, and Hightower took their place. Hightower himself joked about stripping enough spare parts off of Grimlock to “build a new Hook”.

In vehicle mode, Hightower can use his crane to lift objects weighing up to 20 tons. In the movies he also has a wrecking ball capable of destroying almost any structure. In his robot alt-mode he carries a laser pistol. He serves as the right leg (left arm in RotF) of Devestator. Overuse of his crane can result in metal stress fractures.

Hightower was the other Constructicons during the battle in Egypt. He and other Constructicons waited in a quarry in their construction vehicle disguises until the humans Seymour Simmons, Leo Spitz and the Autobots Skids and Mudflap arrived. The Constructicons combined into Devastator and attacked. Devastator shrugged off the Autobot twins and started demolishing the Great Pyramid of Giza. Simmons called upon the United States Navy to attack Devastator. The U.S.S. Kidd fired her experimental rail gun, smashing one of his arms to pieces and destroying Devastator.
