Honey Rider was born Honeychile Rider and was descended from an old-established colonial family. At five years old she was her home was burned down killing her parents. She was then raised by a nanny and kept in a cellar until she was 15. It was during this time that she was raped by an overseer who broke her nose during the assault. Honey later kills the overseer by putting a black widow spider in his mosquito net. The revenge gives her no rest however as she is constantly reminded of him every-time she sees her own face.

Bothered by her nose honey becomes a shell diver and saves her money from selling seashells to raise enough money to get plastic surgery. While collecting shells on Crab Key she meets James Bond. Both Honey and Bond get captured by Doctor No. No unsuccessfully tries to kill her by tying her to some rocks and having the crabs to eat her alive. Honey escapes and saves Bond who is unconscious and badly injured by getting him off the island and applying first aid.

After her encounter with Bond, Honey moves to Philadelphia. There she meets Doctor Wilder and get married. They start a family and have two children.

Creation

Honey was created by Ian Fleming is his series of James Bond Novels. She first and only appearance in the novels was in the book Dr. No written in 1962.

In the film Dr. No, Honey is played by Ursula Andress. Ursula however had such a thick Sweedish accent that her voice was dubbed by Nikki van der Zyl. It is in the film that her name is first shortened from Honeychil to Honey. She first appears in the film coming out of the water in a white Bikni. This scene is such a classic moment that it was duplicated in another James Bond film called Die Another Day by actress Halle Barry who played Jinx.

Ursula is actually mentioned in a later book by Ian Flemming called On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. She is only one of two actors who played characters in Bond films and then be mentioned in the Novels. David Niven who actually played Bond in the film Casino Royale.

Mariah Carey has a song called Honey where she mentions the scene from the film of Honey coming out of the water.
