Hope

Origin

Very little is known about Hope Taya. She is an Amazon, and found work as Lex Luthor’s bodyguard alongside her partner and fellow Amazon, Mercy Graves. Of the two, she is the “good cop,” acting calm and benevolent to Graves’ hot-headedness and ruthlessness. 

Creation

Hope was created by Mark Millar and Stuart Immonen. 

Major Story Arcs

President Luthor 

After Luthor, then President of the United States, fails in preventing an invasion of Topeka, Hope turns against him. She seeks out the Daily Planet, and tells her story to Lois Lane, who intends to leak the revelations about Luthor’s shady activities as the President via the paper. Before it is released, Clark Kent has his name put on the story, to protect Lane. Kent and Lane attempt to reveal Hope as their informant, but she retracts her story. Luthor, worried about the possibility of impeachment based on Hope’s testimony, fires her, then abducts her and imprisons her below Lexcorp Tower. While in his power, she is tortured and lobotomized. She is rescued by Superman after Talia Head alerts him to her imprisonment.   

Powers and Abilities

As an Amazon, Hope possesses all the powers inherent to that group. She has superhuman strength, reflexes, agility, speed and endurance, as well as increased longevity. She is also an expert hand-to-hand combatant, and proficient in the use of a number of weapons.
