Horigal

Origin

The Horigal is a witch-creature that is created by the magical merging of witches and their familiars. As such it is not an entity in and of itself. It is unclear how the magic to create the Horigal was discovered or created, nor is it known who the first Horigal consisted of.

Creation

The Horigal was created by Grant Morrison and Frazer Irving. It made its first appearance in Seven Soldiers: Klarion #1.

Major Story Arcs

Seven Soldiers of Victory

The three Submissionaries of Limbo Town form the Horigal after discovering a Sheeda spine-rider in the town. The Horigal attacks many of the men of the village, killing dozens. It also attacks the escaping Klarion, but he manages to evade it by setting the grundymen on it, and leads it into the subway system, where it is struck by a subway train. It crawls back to Limbo Town, horribly wounded. The Submissionaries separate and only Submissionary Judah remains alive long enough to teach Klarion how to form a Horigal. Klarion and Teekl become the Horigal to repel the invasion by Melmoth and his men, which it does successfully.

Robin

Klarion and Teekl form the Horigal in an attempt to withdraw Teekl from the clutches of a Judgement Beast. Their efforts, combined with Robin’s wielding of a cruciform, successfully destroys the Beast.

Powers and Abilities

The Horigal is a magical gestalt creature whose nature is partially informed by those that make it up, particularly the nature of the familiars. Often it possesses massive strength, invulnerability, and stamina. It is partially feral in nature, and is difficult to dissuade from a target.
