Origin
Hoss is the nickname of Eric Cartwright. He is the second son of Ben Cartwright from Ben’s second wife who died in child birth. He got his nickname because he was as big as a Hoss (Horse). He is the biggest of his three brothers Adam and Little Joe. He is also known for his ten gallon hat as well as his good nature. His father is Benjamin Cartwright.

In the hugely popular television show Hoss was played by Dan Blocker.
