Major Hubert Ffoulkes and his daughter Kathy were the prime antagonist against Tony Stark having a factory on the island of Lakani. Hubert believed that people should live a more simple life and that machines only caused pollution and made the land unlivable. Although he led a peaceful protest a group known as the Smashers had a more violent method for shutting down the Stark plant. Iron Man however was able to take down the group and their leader Mastermind who was in actuality a Mr. Bowers an employee of Stark’s that had been embezzling money. Bowers had hoped to cause as much of a ruckus as he could to shut down the plant in order to hide his crimes.
